Genie ThoughtaliniFebruary 2023 This month I'm asking questions about expectations and how they affect our experiential reality. (1) Why do our brains seem comfortable making predictions about things that are ultimately unknown? (2) How does trauma affect our attachment to expectations? (3) Can we expect without feeling disappointment when the results don't align? (4) Is this behavior biological in terms of a practical survival mechanism or an ideological approach to interpreting our reality (or both)? (5) Is it unhealthy or irrational to expect things of others? (6) Ultimately, what would be the difference in emotional experience while living void of expectations? How would we related to ourselves, others, and our environment differently? (7) Is this type of life possible or even desirable? (8) What are the different forms of expectations and methods of how they manifest? Buddhism teaches us that life is suffering, and that much of this suffering comes from the consequences of laying expectations over the world as a map to guide us. A spiritual connection to the present without judgement allows us to flow into perpetual acceptance. This concept has spoken to me for some time and I continually push myself to build more acceptance and less expectance. To allow for things to unfurl while I watch in wonder. As with all complex concepts, I wish to remain curious in the intricacies of experience, time and conciousness. This year I will keep learning to live in awe of the world unfolding and laying its map upon me, following behind quietly. |
Community UpdateThe first month of the year is already behind us! Woosh! 🍃 You have all made it such a fun one. The generosity and effort you've all put into the community brings such a warmth to my day to day experience--Thank you for that!! A special thanks to those of you who have contributed to the theme & content suggestions, it has been so fun to see other perspectives and showcase things the community is craving. My goals moving forward are contining to log the things we do, & evolve the discord & stream content as we hopefully grow the community. February is the month that I will take a visit to Japan & South Korea! 🗾 I am very excited to attempt several IRL streams while I am there, my heart is bent on bringing you some great walking or eating content. Cross your fingers for good data service! I will be joined by my best friend of nearly 20 years, Eric, and his wife Nina, so I'm excited for you to perhaps meet them as well. I think it's going to be another great month. Let's keep walking toward our goals, even at a snail's pace. Anything is possible~ 💖 |
