April 2023

This month I joined a book club that my ex from 20 years ago, who now lives down the street, is running. We are reading "The Wall" by Marlen Haushofer and it has been one of the best books I've encountered as a of late, although I don't read as much as I once did.

I think the reason I enjoy this book, although it is also well written and creative, is that I connect so much to the thoughts and emotional expression of the narrator. When I read some of the passages I feel this deep, resonating relief. That there exists, within others parallel to myself, an understanding of certain experiences, certain memories, intangible and fleeting microcosms of reality. That my life up until now has been made up of moments that are shared and perhaps in a sense, collective.

Often I get in my own head and feel completely alone. You can reach out to others, but it feels as if no matter what words you exchange, the pure feeling remains deep within you. No matter what advice or condolence is given, our emotional worlds are for us to hold and process entirely on our own. This doesn't mean we can't find comfort in the solace of another, only that emotion and thought and the way we feel them can be, and perhaps must be, isolating.

The philosopher Martin Heidegger states that experience is the process of understanding (or misunderstanding). Exchanging with others, whether it be in real time, or simply a quiet moment with a book and our own thoughts, allows us a chance to connect with that understanding. I belive that taking the time to connect to ourselves, through each other, is valuable, imperative. I hope you can all have moments in your day where you encounter information that you connect to, that sheds a healing warm light upon your soul, and feel a bit less isolated.

Community Update

ONE! YEAR! OF! KOFI! Can't believe it has been a year~~ Thank you to those of you that have been here for all or part of that. I want to say that I've improved over this past year, I think not just in the content but in my personal life in general. Of course there is still a lot of learning to come, but I've moved from notion to my own website and I've also gotten pretty good at prepping for the month in advance. The kofi members have grown (thank you!) and I want to continue making it something that is worth your time and money.

I'll be moving at the end of this month, who knows what new opportunities or challenges will arise. But I'm excited to bring you all with me to my new home! I still plan to investigate how to get a stable connection for mobile streaming to do some more IRL streams if possible, but that's a goal for the future. Take care everyone, tell your loved ones you love them, especially yourself~ 🎐
